A HISTORY OF SUNSOUTH BANK

A History of Pride and Accomplishment

SunSouth Bank established its early roots deep in the soil of rural Alabama as The People’s Bank in Clio, Alabama. Created in 1954, The People’s Bank began as a small family owned bank serving the financial needs of the farmers and merchants of the community. However, its future potential for growth was limited by the mature outlook for the agricultural economics of Barbour county. Consequently, Guy F. Medley, Michael A. Medley and Michael P. McCann purchased the bank and moved the charter to the flourishing city of Dothan, Alabama to take advantage of the promising outlook for future growth in that community.

They changed the name to SunSouth Bank and launched the bank on a steep growth curve. They acquired a premier location on Jamestown Boulevard and restored a landmark home to a signature facility which is located adjacent to the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce.

Beginning with a loan production office in Enterprise, Alabama, the bank soon recognized the potential for serving that rapidly growing community with a full service branch. Although the branch was launched in a temporary location in an obscure location, it was an immediate success. Consequently, plans are now underway for the construction of a permanent branch facility at a premier location in the business center of Enterprise .

Recognizing the unique opportunity to serve the rapidly growing Hispanic Community of the Southeast, the bank established a branch called Banco del Sol. The branch is staffed with outstanding people whose mother tongue and personal background is Mexican, Central American or South American language and culture. The atmosphere of the branch is warm and welcoming to those who do not have a personal history of dealing with a bank.

The bank has expanded its lending and financial skills to the related business of leasing with SunSouth Capital, Inc. The leasing company has focused on the rapidly growing Florida Panhandle with great success and now plans to move into Alabama.

The rapid growth of the Bank created the need for additional space to accommodate the expanding operating functions. These are the important people who assure that the bank continues to provide the quality and warm personal service for which it is justly proud. SunSouth Corporate Headquarters is located at the corner of Main Street and Jamestown Boulevard in Dothan; a location which is rapidly becoming the business and financial center of the Wiregrass.

This is your bank, the performance bank . . . welcome aboard.
